THREE DIMENSIONAL CHAIN (3DC)

The new 3DC framework is the next evolution of the blockchain protocol. The 3DC uses a unique implementation of three consensus channels, transforming the blockchain into a 3D process called the 3 dimensional chain. The 3DC is an efficient, scalable and secure framework designed for greater decentralization and utilization of resources, and will be implemented through the three stages of the TAO (Tritium, Amine, Obsidian) upgrade.

DECENTRALIZED MINING

The 3DC framework maximises decentralization through diversity, using three different channels to verify and lock transactions into the chain. Each channel is optimized to use a different consensus model (witnessing, stake-weights, and proof of work), and this reduces the risk of miner centralization endangering the network. The traditional proof-of-work model rewards the first miner to finish a complex task, which incentivizes miners to pool resources. Instead, the 3DC framework becomes the mining pool, rewarding every miner for work performed, and making mining pools redundant.

ON-CHAIN SCALING

The Nexus 3D blockchain distributes transaction processing across multiple channels working synergistically to increase transaction throughput as resources increase, providing on-chain scalability. Individual channels verify transactions, consolidate verified transactions into Merkle trees, and add finished blocks onto the blockchain. The Unified Time protocol enables transaction processing, trust locks, and block locks to be consistent throughout time. The potential of Nexus 3DC is limited only by node count and represents the most energy-efficient consensus system to date.

BLOCKCHAIN PARTITIONING

Nexus’s revolutionary Lower Level Database (LLD) facilitates the automatic selection of nodes to service subsets of the 3D blockchain structure. The LLD provides dynamic data retrieval, which enables the partitioning of the entire 3D blockchain across nodes. This significantly reduces blockchain bloat from storing the complete blockchain, without pruning or snapshotting. The LLD operates in constant time, which means that no matter how big the dataset, the database is processed at the same rate.
